Maggie's on the runway
Saturday 11th June was an amazing day. I was honoured to volunteer my services for the day to shoot an event in aid of Maggie's Manchester. Maggies' Centres are a charity that provides support for those affected by cancer. The events was held at Manchester Airport Runway Visitor Park under Concorde! As soon as I arrived the place was a hive of activity and an amazing bunch of people all busy pulling things together ahead of what was to become an amazing day in support of a fantastic cause.
I spent some time chatting to all the models some of whom I know personally. All have, or continue to battle with cancer and receive support from Maggie's. The positivity was amazing and was very very humbling indeed. Once the main show got going guests were treated to a catwalk show by the models sporting clothes from many fashion houses including Coast, Ted Baker & Gap. All looked fantastic and were beaming. This was interspersed with some personal stories. Eeek this was tough... World famous stylist Trevor Sorbie gave a passionate speech also. I get the odd teary eye at when doing wedding photography but this was so moving and captivating. I won't even attempt to put this into words but as I type I feel emotional just reflecting on it.
A number of performances took place and top of the Bill was Rick Astley. Rick was fantastic and stayed throughout the day & night and was busy chatting to everyone, signing Maggies T-shirts and at one point doing his special bit for charity with people paying to have a squeeze of his booty after host Darren Parks of Smooth Radio breakfast show put the offer out! The stage got mobbed with people running forward with £10 then £20 notes for the opportunity! The evening drew to a close with some amazing fundraising and acts & all raised over £125k and counting.
